The draw for the group stages of the 2026/27 National League Cup has been made, with Truro City set to compete against some of England's top youth teams. This competition is designed to provide young players from Premier League and EFL clubs additional opportunities to face senior opposition, aiding in their development and growth.
What is the National League Cup?
The National League Cup is a unique competition that brings together 16 National League clubs and 16 Premier League 2 (PL2) Under-21 teams. Entering its third season, this cup aims to offer young players from top-tier clubs an opportunity to test themselves against senior opposition while also providing National League clubs with the chance to play regular matches at their home grounds.
The competition is structured so that each National League team will face four midweek fixtures against each of the PL2 sides in their group. The top two teams from each group will progress to the quarter-finals, ensuring a competitive and engaging tournament for all participants.
How Does It Play Out?
This season, Truro City has been drawn into Group D, which includes Birmingham City, Leicester City, Southampton, Boston United, Sutton United, and Woking. The fixtures are set to begin in August, giving the teams ample time to prepare for their matches against each other.
