Truro City secured a straightforward 3-0 victory over Birmingham City U21 in the National League Cup group stage on Tuesday night. The win keeps them on course to reach the knockout stages for a second consecutive season.
Tom Tweedy gave the hosts an early lead, finding the net inside the first quarter of an hour. Ben Starkie doubled the advantage just before the hour mark, finishing an assist from Tweedy. Harvey Greenslade then sealed the three points six minutes from full time, converting a pass from Jephcott.
Manager John Askey made several changes during the second half, with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dean among those introduced. Birmingham's Chahal was shown a yellow card shortly before Starkie's goal. The result means Truro have won all three of their group matches so far.
They now need just a point from their final fixture against West Bromwich Albion next month to progress. This cup success adds to a strong start to the season which sees the club sitting fourth in the National League South with 21 points from 11 games.
Attention now turns to the FA Cup, with a trip to face Sutton United this Saturday. After that, the league campaign resumes with a visit to Hampton & Richmond on 24 October.
