Truro City's first season in the National League will end in relegation after a 1-0 loss at Yeovil Town. The Tinners' defeat, coupled with a 3-3 draw for Eastleigh at Woking, means Truro are 13 points from safety with four games and 12 points left to play for.
What happened?
Truro put in a battling display, with Harry Charsley spurning a golden chance to put them in front after 28 minutes when Joy Mukena's slip sent him clear, but he was denied by goalkeeper Jed Ward.
At the other end, Will Merry brought a decent save from Aidan Stone in the 41st minute and turned provider for Aaron Jarvis to bring another fine stop from the keeper just before the hour.
Why it matters for Truro City
The reigning National League South champions have not only had to cope with mammoth away trips to places like Gateshead, Hartlepool and Carlisle, but have also had to get used to being fully professional for the first time.
They lost their first five games before a maiden win at home to Boston United at the end of August – and while a run of one loss in five games over September and October gave them some hope they went on to win just two more times before the end of the year.
What comes next?
Only two more wins have come since and conceding a series of late goals cost them wins and draws. Cornwall's first professional football team will hope this season's experience stands them in good stead for another promotion tilt in 12 months' time.
