Opening Victory

Truro City beat Southampton Under-21s 2-1 in their opening National League Cup group match during the 2026-27 season. Max Kinsey opened the scoring and Jack Stretton added a late goal, while Southampton’s Harry Gathercole pulled one back in stoppage time.

Key Moments

The Tinners took control early, but it was eight minutes after the break that the advantage was cemented. Kinsey celebrated a permanent move to Truro City by heading home Will Dean’s free-kick, giving the club a 1-0 lead. Stretton then doubled the lead two minutes from time with a well-executed half-volley from an angle on the edge of the box, sending the ball into the top corner. Southampton, managed by 34-time England international Adam Lallana, responded with a substitute goal from Harry Gathercole deep into additional time.

Looking Ahead

With a confident start to their sophomore National League Cup campaign, Truro City will aim to build on this momentum as they progress through the group stages. The club’s recent run to the last four last term sets a high bar for the remainder of the competition.
