Truro City suffered their first home defeat of the season in a 1-0 loss to Salisbury. An early goal from Josh Hedges after eight minutes proved decisive at the Truro City Stadium.
The result sees the Tinners drop to seventh in the National League South table, now on 14 points from eight matches. They are five points behind leaders Maidstone United, who they face next. The team's goal minutes data shows a clear need for sharper finishing, with 10 of their 11 league goals this season coming after the 60th minute.
Despite controlling the game, Truro could not find an equaliser. Will Dean forced a save and Jordan Alonge struck the post, but the ball would not go in.
Manager John Askey struggled to explain the outcome. "It’s difficult to sum it up, obviously we conceded a goal early, that gave them something to cling on to," he said. "We have done everything but put the ball in the back of the net, it’s just baffling sometimes when you have so much possession and so many balls going into the box and it didn’t fall for us at all tonight."
He added to his frustration, contrasting the performance with a poor display in their previous 1-1 draw with Walton & Hersham. "Saturday I was frustrated because I thought we played poorly, today I thought we played quite well, but it was just that final finish," Askey said.
The defeat halts a positive run of home form that had included a 4-1 win over Leicester City U21 and a 3-1 victory against Chesham United. You can review the team's full schedule on our fixtures page.
